Annotated Full Length Personal Genomes Workshop
This workshop will use SNPedia.com to survey the current state of personalized genetics. Much of this information is directly accessible to the public for under $400, but can and will be used inform medical decisions. Pharmacogenomics, the use of genetics to predict a person's response to a drug, is an early success story in this field. Identification of rare Mendelian diseases has become commonplace and seems to provide at least the comfort of an explanation, if not yet treatment options for families. The search for the genetics of more common diseases remains a confusing mix of risk scores, enviromental variation, secondary viral infections and epigenetic effects which can be further influenced by which company provided test results. Learn about this now... or wait for a patient to arrive with printouts.
